Fence Maintenance

A well-built fence will last—but a little maintenance goes a long way in keeping it looking good and performing the way it should, especially with South Dakota weather.

Cedar Fence Maintenance

Cedar fences naturally age over time, turning from that fresh wood look to a more weathered gray. If you want to keep that natural color longer, we recommend applying a wood protector like Thompson’s WaterSeal every couple of years. This is very easy to do yourself simply with a weed sprayer.

This helps:

  • Preserve the color

  • Protect against moisture and rot

  • Extend the life of your fence

Vinyl, Chain Link & Iron Fences

One of the biggest advantages of these materials is low to zero maintenance.

  • Vinyl fencing – No staining or sealing required

  • Chain link fencing – Built to handle the elements

  • Iron fencing – Durable with long-lasting coatings

Outside of occasional cleaning, these fences are designed to take care of themselves.

Routine Inspections

For older fences, we recommend checking things over once or twice a year.

Look for:

  • Loose or damaged panels

  • Rotting wood posts

  • Leaning sections

  • Worn hardware

Catching small issues early can prevent bigger, more expensive repairs later. Simply give us a call for a free inspection.

Steel Post Repairs & Upgrades

One of the most common long-term issues with wood fences is failing wood posts. That’s why we offer steel post repairs and upgrades.

Instead of replacing the entire fence, we can:

  • Reinforce existing sections

  • Support wood posts with new steel posts attached and set in concrete

  • Extend the life of your current fence

It’s a cost-effective way to keep your fence standing strong for years to come.
